A former Zamfara state governor has left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC. Mamuda Shinkafi had defected from the defunct
All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), on which platform he became governor in 2007, to the PDP in 2008 and APC, 2017. Shinkafi was trounced by the APC in 2011, thereby losing his return bid. He was said to have been involved and got N15 million in the alleged poll bribe purveyed to PDP members in 2015 by Diezani Allison-Madueke, former oil minister.
Shinkafi announced his decision to join the APC at a ceremony in Gusau, the state capital, saying it is an outcome of a long negotiation between him and stakeholders who have faith in him and my leadership qualities.
He also announced that all his former cabinet members, including his former secretary to the state government, Mamman Bawa, had joined him in the APC.
Muntari Anka, who served as a deputy governor under Shinkafi, also defected to the APC in Anka local government area a fortnight ago.
