The police have arrested an Islamic cleric, Kazeem Alimson, in the White Sand area of Isheri-Oshun, Ejigbo Lagos for allegedly killing a three-year-old boy.
The mother of the boy, Chiagozie Okereke, told Punch that she had taken the child out with his sibling for their evening bath when Chiagozie disappeared. She said she had gone to get a wrapper to strap the toddler to her back but before she got outside, where she left the child, he was gone.
She said she was told he was in their neighbour’s apartment but when she asked, he was not there. She was told he had gone out with one Simon Kanu, a 15-year-old.
The Isheri Osun Divisional Police Officer, Emeodi Camilus, who got a tip-off, rushed to the scene and arrested the two suspects.
During interrogation, Kanu said he was paid N500 by the cleric to lure the toddler. He said the child was killed with a big stone in an uncompleted building. He alleged that Alimson had threatened to kill him if he squealed.
Alimson, however, denied the allegation saying he was sleeping in his house before he heard the news that the boy was missing. He said he had been arrested shortly afterwards. He denied knowing Kanu or having any business with him at all.
The Divisional Police Officer of Isheri Osun revealed that the boy’s dead body was found in the suspect’s house after a search was conducted.
