Real Madrid have smashed a 50-year-old goalscoring formerly held by Benfica. The Los Blancos became the first team to score in 48 games in a row. The record was formerly held by Benfica, who scored in 47 consecutive games between December 1963 and January 1965.
The last time the team was scoreless was back in April in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The side survived an early scare by Real Betis to win 2-1 on Sunday. Goalkeeper Keylor Navas had scored an own goal to put the visitors ahead before Cristian Ronaldo headed them back in contention.
Zinedine Zidane’s men were also handed a boost when Cristiano Piccini received his marching orders. Sergio Ramos handed the side all three points when he headed home Toni Kroos’ corner in the 81st minute.
