South Africa Formally Revokes Plan To Quit ICC

 

South Africa has formally revoked its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, ICC. The country notified the U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of the revocation, citing a last month High Court ruling that declared the pull-out unconstitutional.

“The Instrument of Withdrawal was found to be unconstitutional and invalid,” according to a document posted on the U.N. treaties website.

However, the latest capitulation contradicts the position of South Africa’s Justice Minister Michael Masutha, who said last month that the court ruling was a delay that would not stop the government’s bid to leave the ICC.
