A Lagos state Mobile Court Thursday set free 13 students of the University of Lagos arrested and detained at the Kirikiri Prisons while protesting the expulsion of their colleagues. One of the expelled students was visually-impaired. Notable among the hitherto detained students was Femi Adeyeye, who was expelled for impugning the institution’s management.
Moreover, there was a protest by students and rights group, led by the Education Rights Campaign, ERC, at the Mobile Court premises, in Oshodi.
The group had sent invite to media houses for coverage on Wednesday, describing the mobile court as a “Kangaroo Court”.
They called the detention “unjust@ and accused the “police in connivance with the UNILAG management” of detaining the students “on false charges”.
Also, on Wednesday, the management of Unilag disclaimed the students, citing their rustication from the institution.
