Justice Sylvester Ngwuta has pleaded “not guilty” to an 8-count charge of false declaration of assets slammed on him by the Federal Government. The Supreme Court judge was arraigned before Dalandi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT. According to the charges, the federal government said the alleged offence contravened Section 15 of the CCT Act, and punishable under section 23 (2) of the same Act. The case has been adjourned till 22 July.
Justice Ngwuta was among judges whose residences were raided by the Department of State Security, DSS. The DSS claimed it found huge sums of money, of various denominations, in Justice Ngwuta’s house. Also, the embattled judge is being prosecuted in another corruption suit before Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
