It has emerged that tennis star, Serena Williams was two months pregnant when she won her twenty-third grand slam title during the Australian Open that took place earlier in the year.
Williams, whose pregnancy was confirmed on Thursday, won seven straight matches, including a straight-sets win over her sister, Venus, in the women’s final.
The 35-year-old athlete also announced that she will be taking maternity leave through the rest of the year.
Williams’ spokesperson, Kelly Bush Novak said “I’m happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall”.
The confirmation came hours after the athlete posted a picture of herself clad in a one piece yellow suit on Snapchat. She captioned the photo “20 weeks”, causing a frenzy speculation on social media.
However, Williams deleted the post shortly after putting it up.
In December 2016, the world’s highest paid female athlete announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
