A man, Abubakari Aliu, 32, suspected to be a herdsman has allegedly raped a married woman on a farm. The incident happened in Agogo, the Ashanti region of Ghana.
The suspect is said to have chased the 19-year-old with a machete while she was working with her sister-in-law on the farm. While the other woman escaped, Aliu caught his victim and overpowered her before committing the act.
It was gathered that the second woman had sought for help in the next community but the herdsman escaped before the villagers arrived the scene.
The suspect was reportedly caught by police in Agogo community after the case was reported.
A source, Peter Abaje, said there had been many rape cases in the region adding that the victims didn’t report to the police for the fear of being stigmatized.
He said the victim had arrived in the area from the Northern region less than a month ago when she suffered the abuse.
“She was crying the whole of the day. It is very difficult for her because she got married about a year ago so she was thinking about how the husband will feel when he hears what has happened,”Abaje said.
The victim has since been treaed and discharged at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
