A prominent member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Razaq Bello, has been shot dead in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.
Bello nicknamed ‘Hamburger’ was killed by a rival gang on Monday during ward primaries held across 57 local government and council development areas in the state.
According to witnesses, trouble started following the cancellation of the exercise in Shogunle, which was said to be improperly conducted.
The cancellation led to a confrontation between Bello’s gang and the other led by one Samuel Oguntoye, a.k.a Golden.
The groups engaged in a gun fight, following which Bello was hit by a bullet. Until his death, the deceased was Lagos State Treasurer of Tricycle Operators, an affiliate of NURTW.
Residents of the area have reportedly fled their homes in fear of possible escalation of violence.
