Abductors of Dr. Niran Ikuomola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Hospital Management Board, have slashed the ransom demanded for his release to N20 million.
Ikuomola was Sunday kidnapped in Kogi State on his way to Abuja. The PUNCH reports that the abductors had called his family to demand N70 million for his release before communicating the reduction to his wife, Omonike.
The abductors had rejected the N2 million she offered and insisted on N20 million.
The state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has convened a security council meeting to address Ikuomola’s kidnap. He said the government was working hard to ensure he regains freedom.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hilda Harrison, said the state had directed the regular cutting of bushes along major highways linking it with its neighbours to ensure that criminals have no hiding place to perpetrate evil.
