Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has said Governor Ayodele Fayose’s threat to leave the party will not affect its progress.
The faction was reacting to the statement by Fayose to dump the party if Sheriff wins at the Supreme Court.
Olasunkanmi Ogunbiyi, the state faction deputy chairman, in Ado Ekiti on Thursday said the governor’s inability to control the party structures in the state was his reason for the threat.
“The exit of Fayose from PDP will not adversely affect the fortunes of the party. All the ward, local government and state executives as well as the state’s leadership caucus remain intact.
“If he decides to leave PDP again, we shall not miss him as the party remains strong and in fact under the able leadership of Chief Clement Awoyelu”,
Ogunbiyi stated that PDP “won the governorship election and all the nine National Assembly seats and 13 House of Assembly seats when Fayose dumped the party in 2007.”
