A man, Okechukwu Amos, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly killing his boss, a Chinese woman named Alice Xu, in Akinola-Cole Estate, Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja area of the state.
The 28-year-old suspect worked at Green World, a drug producing firm on the estate, where he also committed the act. It was learnt that Amos sneaked into 26-year-old Xu’s apartment, which is located within the company on Friday around 8pm.
He allegedly covered her nose with a cloth while she was asleep and suffocated her to death. Also, the suspect was said to have stolen about N800,000 and $2,000, from the apartment.
To evade being intercepted at the estate gate, which is manned by security operatives, Amos disguised as a mentally-derailed person.
One of the guards told the police that he didn’t recognize the suspect at first but was able to identify him after he looked closely.
“I asked him what was wrong and why he was dressed like that. He said he was angry and that he was quitting his job at the the company. I asked if the person that brought him to the company was aware, he said no.
“I volunteered to call the person, but he refused. I requested to know the content of the bag with him, he was reluctant”, he said.
The guard, who became suspicious, alerted a policeman at the gate. The officer is said to have forced Amos to open his bag, which contained the stolen cash.
A police source said the suspect claimed the deceased insulted and disrespected him while he worked at the company. He added that Amos alleged he meant to deal with Xu and not kill her.
The state Police spokesperson, Olarinde Famous-Cole confirmed the incident. He said that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
