A 41-year-old woman has been arrested by the police for attempting to assassinate her business partner. The suspect, a Ghanaian, named, Joyce Antwi, reportedly borrowed from her associate, a female plywood dealer, GH¢99, 000 (about 7.2m naira in Nigerian currency) in October 2015. In April 2017, the lender, who was grappling with a downturn in her plywood business, demanded her money and gave the suspect till June to pay the borrowed sum. Antwi, who promised to pay, rather contracted a man for GH¢5, 000 to help assassinate her business associate. She was said to have paid the would-be assassin GH¢2, 000.
However, the lid blew off Antwi’s plot when the supposed hired killer contacted the police to reveal what had transpired between them. According to DCOP Ken Yeboah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, the hired killer revealed Antwi took him to the victim’s house, instructing it was best to kill the victim when her family were away. The police chief said the suspect was invited to the victim’s house on May 27, 2017, where she was arrested. Antwi confessed to the crime and currently in police custody pending prosecution.
