The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has said a tanker driver was mowed by suspected armed robbers at Asejire, along Ibadan-Ile Ife Road, in Osun State. The corps said the armed robbers led the truck and the driver’s assistant off the expressway and had planned to kill the latter too, but for its arrival at the crime scene.
The hoodlums reportedly beat up the driver before using machete on him until he died.
Babawale Afolabi, Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in Osun State, said: “Armed robbers hijacked a petrol tanker with number plate, SHA 592 XA, Kwara, in the Asejire area.
“The incident happened around 2.30am. The driver had already been killed by the time our men got there.
“Immediately the robbers saw our men, they took to their heels and the other man was rescued.
“Investigation is ongoing on how to apprehend the robbers.
“The Commissioner of Police in the state has been informed, while policemen have removed the dead body.”
