The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday received list of 44 nominees for screening and appointment as local government interim management officers.
The list of the nominees was contained in a letter sent to the house by governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The speaker, Abdullahi Ata, who, announced the receipt of the letter during the plenary session, said the letter dated July 13, sought for the assembly’s approval for the appointment of the officers.
According to him, the decision to seek for approval of the House to appoint interim management officers followed the expiration of the tenure of the former 44 local government council chairmen on May 29.
“The governor said in the letter that the appointment of the officers is necessary to avoid vacuum in the local governments pending when council election is held.
“The local government chairmen were dissolved in May and election may not be conducted immediately for the new councils chairmen”,
the governor said in the letter.
The speaker said the names of the nominees would not be disclosed to the public due to security reasons until after the screening.
He advised the nominees not to appear before the screening Committee with their supporters as failure to abide by the order could lead to their disqualification.
It was reported that the committee which is expected to commence screening of the nominees on Tuesday, is also expected to submit its report on Wednesday.
