Kidnappers Of Five Delta Students Arrested

The police have arrested a man identified simply as Austine, aka Lion, the leader of a kidnap gang, who abducted five secondary school students in Ughelli, Delta State.

The accomplices are identified only as Joseph, Onos, Omojevbe, Tina and Stella.

It was reported that the suspects were arrested by the state House of Assembly Committee on Peace and Security.

Austin Opunbor, Chairman of the anti-kidnapping unit, said that Austine and one of his gang members were caught while the other three escaped.

“Immediately we received the report of the kidnap of the school children, our committee mobilised its men to be on their trail.

“While some of our personnel were on the streets monitoring events, others embarked on a thorough search from forest to forest and uncompleted buildings.

“The arrest of the self-confessed gang leader was quite tasking,” he said.

Opunbor added that the kidnappers released the victims when they discovered that the committee was closing in on them.

He said that the children have been re-united with their families, while the committee had launched a manhunt for the three fleeing suspects
