The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has stated the state council poll slated for July 22 will hold. Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.), LASIEC chairman, said it was prepared and intensifying awareness campaign for a successful conduct. Dapo Olatunde, the Director of Publicity of LASIEC, explained in a statement that the commission had concluded the training of its electoral officers on effective election management and administration. The commission also said it is currently training ad-hoc staff to be deployed for the election. It also said it would await court pronouncement in a suit the Labour Party filed against the organisation.
According to her, the commission is also awaiting the court’s verdict in another suit instituted against it by National Conscience Party (NCP) over “imposition of administrative fees”. Phillips noted that the party did not obtain the nomination forms for its candidates as a result of the fees and did not also participate in the recent screening and validation of candidates.
