The police in Ondo State, on Wednesday, foiled a bullion van robbery on the Akure-Ondo Expressway, Ireje village in the Ondo East Local Government of the state. The van was reportedly transporting an undisclosed amount of money from Akure, the state capital, to Ondo town before the armed men, numbering about 10, struck. An eyewitness told The Punch that the police escort had opened fire on the robbers, injuring some them. She said the police also suffered casualties in the attack, which occurred around 1pm.
Femi Joseph, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, said the robbers were not allowed to take the money inside the bullion van away. He said the police were on the trail of the robbers.
