Two women, alongside six others, suspected to be members of the dreaded Badoo cult have appeared before an Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos, for allegedly killing an unidentified man before throwing his corpse into the river.
The suspects are Abiola Amos, 37; John Jacob, 56; Angela Okpala, 28; Felicia Alhaji, 50; Omoba Stephen, 30; Mohammed Oguche, 33; Akin Adepitan, 35 and Emeka Onwuaka, 35.
Acccording to the prosecutor, Chinalu Uwadione said the defendants on June 5 at stormed different locations at Zongo area of Seme Border in Badagry, Lagos state and caused chaos, causing residents to run to safety.
He told the court that the second and third defendant, John Jacob and Angela Okpala, allegedly kidnapped an unidentified person, an offence which contravenes Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state.
In addition, he said the Amos, Alhaji, Stephen and Oguche, the first; fourth, fifth and sixth defendants beat up the kidnapped victim till death and threw the body into the sea.
Uwadione said their offences are punishable under Section 227 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge preferred against them.
A.S Okubule, the Presiding Magistrate, however, admitted the first; second; third; fourth and fifth defendants to a bail of N500,000 while the 7thand 8thdefandants were granted N100, 000 bail.
She said the defendants must present two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till August 23 for mention.
