Building Collapse Kills Four, Injures Seven In Owerri

At least four persons have died and seven others injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Owerri, Imo State, on Sunday.

The deceased include an 18-month old baby girl, Osinachi Nnabu; a three-year-old boy, Amara; and two adults whose identities were yet to be ascertained as at the time of writing the report.

Two corps members and a 40-year-old man were said to be among the seven people that were also trapped in the building. They are however still unconscious at a hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

It was reported that the building is the fifth to collapse within the last one month in the city.

One of the stable survivors, Uzoha, said there was nothing that showed that danger was lurking,

The state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike, said preliminary investigation showed that the tragedy was as a result of unprofessional construction work by the engineering team.

Ezike added that his command would prosecute all those whose actions and inaction caused the disaster.

The dead bodies have been evacuated from the scene of incident.
