A 37-year-old company driver has appeared before an Ebute Metra Magistrates’ Court in Yaba for allegedly stealing a truck belonging to his employers.
According to the charge sheet, Wasiu alongside others at large committed the offence between June and July 2017 at Plot 26, Block M, Isolo Industrial Scheme, Apapa- Oshodi Expressway, Lagos.
Oyinshakin Wasat, the prosecutor said the defendant, an employee driver with Transport Services Limited stole the company’s truck with registration number KRD 403 XM, valued at N22 million, belonging to the complainant, his employer.
Wasat said the driver also stole 800 bags of Lafarge cement, worth three million and damaged the invoice for the goods, in a bid to defraud the owner.
He said the alleged stolen goods belonged to his employer.
The prosecutor told the court that after the driver was arrested on June 21, he lied to the Investigating Police Officer, Eni Ebri and his team at the State Criminal and Intelligence Department at McSmith street, Yaba.
ASP Ebri told Presiding Magistrate T. A Elias that Wasiu gave him false information concerning the report made by the complainant, thereby frustrating investigation.
The 37-year-old denied the allegations, which Wasat said contravened Sections 411, 287 (7) and 339(1)(4) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state.
Magistrate Elias however granted the defendant bail of the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
He said one of the sureties must be a community leader and the other either a civil servant, Executive Director or recognized Chief.
He said the sureties must also show LASRA receipt and proof of three years tax payment to the Lagos state government.
The Magistrate ordered that the sum of N200,000 be deposited into the account of the Chief Registrar and adjourned the case till September 11 for mention.
