Nigerians Besiege Shell, Demand For Jobs

A herd of protesters, Friday, besieged the Belema Flow Station in Rivers state, which belongs to oil multinational, Shell.

The protesters, Reuters said, are demanding for jobs, infrastructure development and an end to environmental pollution.

Eyewitnesses reportedly said the protesters complained they had not benefitted from oil production in the area. Soldiers and security guards did not disperse the crowd as they entered into the flow station, which feeds oil into Shell’s Bonny export terminal.

Shell has not offered any comment on the incident and it couldn’t be ascertained whether the protest had an impact on oil production.
