Senator Ahmed Makarfi, chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has wished President Muhammadu Buhari stays alive till the presidential election of 2019 is held.
Makarfi made the statement at the non-elective national convention of the party held on Saturday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
“We will continue to pray for the president. God will keep him alive till 2019 so he would witness his removal from power because Nigerians are already tired of this change.
“We are not perfect and we would always learn from our mistake. We know Nigerians are missing us and we would always carry them along when we return in 2019,” Makarfi said.
The convention, according to the party, is to celebrate the unification of the party following the resolution of its protracted leadership crisis.
Also, elaborating on what the convention hopes to achieve, Delta Governor Patrick Okowa said decisions would be taken regarding state chapters, such as Ogun, Osun and Lagos, where parallel excos exist.
Moreoverm Okowa said the PDP convention would also extend the tenure of the party’s National Caretaker Committee – the organ currently running the party – by four months.
It was said that about 3,000 delegates from various state chapters of the party are participating in the convention.
