Two men, Rasheed Oyelami and Isreal Ogundimu, both 21 years old, have been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Ogba Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, for phone theft.
The convicted were found guilty of stealing a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N85,000 belonging to a 17-year-old girl named Temilade Oyetayo. They had waylaid their victim along Badero Street, Akinde in Alagbado area of Lagos State around 6:00pm on September 3, 2017.
The two men attacked her with a knife and forcefully collected her phone and made away with it.
But luck ran out on Oyelami and Ogundimu when their victim raised an alarm which caught the attention of passersby. They were immediately apprehended and handed over to the police.
The prosecuting officer, simply identified as Oshiomole, told the court that the offence contravened Sections 409 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Ruling, the presiding Magistrate convicted Oyelami and Ogundimu with no option of fine.
