The Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, has, on Wednesday, declared an indefinite strike. Biobelemoye Josiah, told newsmen in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, that the strike will take effect from Thursday. He said the decision was taken following the expiration of the union's 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government on September 13, 2017. He said the union had again given the government another ultimatum which will elapse on September 21, 2017.

Josiah lamented the government's neglect of their demands saying they had no choice but to proceed on the strike. He, however, said that meetings and rallies should be held at all hospital premises daily. He ordered members of the union at the tertiary health level to ensure the strike is total. He warned that if after 15 days of the strike by the Federal Tertiary Institutions, nothing is done to accede to their demands, all health workers in the states and local governments nationwide will join the strike.
