Some members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, have burned down a police station in Aba, the capital of Abia State. The Ariaria Police Station was burnt down by the mob some hours before the Federal Government ordered the withdrawal of troops from major towns of the state.
Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, confirmed the incident. He added that the mob also injured a policeman.
“Ariaria police station (Aba) was burnt down this morning.
“The people that did this, we are suspecting are IPOB hoodlums.
“The people came in their numbers, besieged the station and one of our policemen was beaten up; but glory be to God, we did not lose the officer’s life,” he told The Punch.
He said the police had been careful in its response to the attack to avert major unrest in the area.
