The Nigeria army council has approved the promotion of 123 senior officers.
The beneficiaries include 66 lieutenant colonels and 57 majors from the ranks of majors to lieutenant colonels and from lieutenant colonels to colonels.
Sani Usman, army spokesman, confirmed this on Saturday.
Usman said the promotion followed the recommendation of the army promotion board 3 and 4 “as reflected in the 2017 Nigerian Army Forecast of Events”.
He listed K.M Samuel, deputy director, army public relations, 7 division and O.O Diya, of 707 special forces brigade as two of the beneficiaries in the category elevated to colonel.
Others include A.M Tukur, commanding officer of 119 task force battalion, M.B Shehu, commanding officer 158 battalion and K.C Uwa, commanding officer 146 battalion.
Usman added that one of the officers, Aliyu Suleman, was promoted posthumously.
Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, congratulated all the benefiting officers and urged them to “redouble their efforts in the discharge of the responsibilities attached to their new ranks”.
