Police, Commercial Motorcyclists Clash In Ibadan

Commercial motorcyclists, on Tuesday, clashed with police in the Yemetu area of Ibadan. While a version of the story says a policeman had shot a motorcyclist for refusing to pay him bribe, another says an accidental discharge had hit a man in the area. An eyewitness told The Punch that incident caused a major unrest in the area as hoodlums joined the protest and attempted burning down a police station. Another eyewitness said some gun-wielding men had engaged the police in a shootout during the clash.

It was gathered that the  policemen also fired into the air in order to disperse the attackers and protect the police station from being razed. The crisis later spread to Beere, Oje, Dandaru and other areas around Yemetu.

Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the clash between the riders  and policemen. He, however, said nobody died in the incident. He said seven arrests had been made in connection with the clash.
