Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles coach, has said that captain John Obi Mikel and forward Odion Ighalo may not be selected for the team’s final Group B World Cup qualifier against Algeria on November 11, 2017. The match is a mere formality as the Eagles have already qualified for the World Cup after beating Zambia last weekend in Uyo.
Rohr explained that the players will be playing a match a weekend before the match against Algeria and need all the time they can get to rest.
“Those coming from China have a long journey to make and when their league resumes on November 4, they will not have the extra two weeks like they had when we played Cameroon”, he said.
The Franco-German tactician, who assured that the Super Eagles will finish the qualifiers without losing any match, also said that absence of some players in the squad, will give opportunity to others.
“Honestly, it is going to be a dicey one because it is important for us to finish the qualifiers without losing a match. However, we will want to marry the two situations of not losing the game and also giving an opportunity to some other new players to showcase their skills,” he added.
