A 31-year-old man, Akinpelu Abbas, and Opakunbi Timileyin, 22, have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court. They were said to have stolen 310 bags of cashew nuts valued at N15.5m.
The police prosecutor, Simeon Imhonwa told the Court that the defendants committed the offence between March 1 and May 30, 2017 along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
The suspects were arraigned on two counts charge bordering on conspiracy and theft.
“That you, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal 310 bags of cashew nuts valued at N15,500,000.00, property of Olan Nigeria Limited, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 287(5)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015,” one of the count charge reads.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge
The presiding magistrate, Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
She said the sureties must show evidence of two years tax payment and own verifiable property in the state.
The case was adjourned till November 3, 2017.
