Jorge Sampaoli, Argentina’s coach, has said that Lionel Messi will not play when the Albiceleste face the Super Eagles in Krasnodar on Tuesday. Sampaoli said the Barcelona captain had played against Russia on Saturday and needed rest.
Messi had been pivotal in the South Americans’ qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, grabbing a hattrick in Argentina’s 1-3 bashing of Ecuador in their final qualifier.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will welcome back captain Mikel Obi after he was rested for the team’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Constantine on Friday. Gernot Rohr, the Eagles coach, has said that Ikechukwu Ezenwa will not feature in the game, saying Deportivo La Coruna youngster, Francis Uzoho, may be given the nod to man the sticks.
