David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido on Monday mocked the organisers of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, after winning Best Worldwide Act and Best Africa Act at the 2017 MTV EMAs.
Davido was nominated for AFRIMA alongside Wizkid, but Davido did not win in any of the categories.
The ‘FIA’ singer became the first African musician to win two MTV EMAs in one night while his rival, Wizkid, won three awards at AFRIMA.
Reacting to his feat, the singer posted a video on Instagram Story, saying: “Let those ones keep their awards. That award that peels. Even the ones that I collected last year would have peeled completely.”
He continued, “my name is David. You can’t play with me and get away with it. 2018, I’m coming for you”.
The singer also admonished ‘people’ who wish to congratulate him on his win to save their effort, saying, “I don’t need it”.
Last week, Davido released a news song ‘Fia’.
Wizkid emerged Best African Act at the 2016 MTV EMAs but the award was later retrieved and handed to Tanzanian singer Alikiba.
