Rohr Hints Of Dropping Ezenwa For Argentina Friendly

Gernot Rohr, the Super Eagles’ coach, has hinted at dropping goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa for newly-invited Deportivo La Coruna man, Francis Uzoho in their friendly against Argentina on Tuesday.

“Against Argentina we will make some changes with two or three players. It will be interesting to see another goalkeeper. We have to work hard to be better,” he said.

Ex-internationals, Raphael Chukwundukwe, and Ifeanyi Udeze, had said the goalkeeping department of the Super Eagles remains a major cause for concern. They lamented the ‘poor performance’ of Ezenwa in the last World Cup qualifying match against Algeria last Friday.

Rohr also said captain Mikel Obi would be back in the team after sitting out the entire duration of the match against Algeria. He said the Tianjin Teda midfielder needed rest after playing in the Chinese Super League.

The German tactician also praised the Nigeria Football Federation for the the “professional and committed manner” it handled the Super Eagles’ 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

“For sure, we must commend the NFF for the role they played right from that game in Ndola against Zambia to last Friday’s game in Constantine, Algeria.
“Apart from putting together excellent arrangements for our games at home, they ensured we travelled in comfort to all our away games and the fact that our away travels were always direct on chartered flights, they made sure we had very good recovery period between games”, Rohr said.
