Alleged Corruption: Ex-CJ Forfeits N50m To FG

The Court of Appeal, Enugu State, has ordered a former Chief Judge, Justice Innocent Umezulike, to forfeit the sum of fifty million naira (N50Million) to the federal government.

In the judgement delivered on Thursday, the court dismissed an appeal the Judge filed against the EFCC, in which he challenged the interim forfeiture of the money lodged in a Zenith Bank account.

Justice Ogunwumiju, who presided over the case, dismissed the appeal and upheld the argument of the EFCC counsel, Wahab Shittu.

Umezulike had appealed the order of Justice A. M Liman of the Federal High Court, Enugu, in March 2017 to forfeit the fund. Before the court order, EFCC had filed an application seeking the freezing, seizure and forfeiture of properties linked to the former CJ.
