President Muhammadu Buhari has freed 500 inmates of the Kurmawa Central Prisons as part of his two-day official visit to the North-Western state. The president’s gesture underscores his prison decongestion policy, which he had persuaded state governors to emulate. Buhari was said to have advised the freed inmates to behave well and ensure they don’t return to the prison. He was said to have also given the freed men some money to transport themselves to their homes.
The president is expected to commission some projects including roads and hospitals in the state.
