The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called for a meeting with aspirants for its party offices. The party’s National Convention Planning Committee, Sub Committees and members of its National Caretaker Committee said it will be meeting separately with aspirants vying for the post of national chairman, other aspirants and chairmen of state chapters at its secretariat, in Abuja.
The PDP appointed Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa chairman of its convention planning committee. The convention holds Saturday December 9.
PDP, which headed the central government for 16 years, was dislodged in 2015 when its candidate then-incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan lost to President Muhammadu Buhari. The out-of-power party, shortly after, went into a protracted leadership crisis between its mainstream, led by Ahmed Makarfi and ousted former chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff.
