Police in Cross River state have arrested one Valentine Ebani, 54, for being in possession of the head of Michael James, a slain police inspector. James was reported to have been killed in a communal clash between Uyanga and Ojor in the Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state on December 25, 2017.
Ebani had been identified as one of the eight people, who have been arrested, for killing the inspector and taking his head to the village shrine.
James, who was attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Enugu, had taken his family on a visit to his in-laws at Ojor village when he was beheaded by rioting youths in Uyanga.
Hafiz Inuwa, the state Commissioner of Police, said James had been buying fuel before he was attacked and killed. He said the rioting youths also made off with his AK-47 rifle with double magazines before setting his Toyota Sienna on fire. He said the suspects are: Isaac Akpan, Benjamin Abakum, Patrick Edet, Famous Archibong and Effiong Odu, Ndifon Arong and Wisdom Inok.
