An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos on Friday, sentenced a 31-year-old man, Nurudeen Adeleke, to three months imprisonment for stealing a wallet.
The convict, from Igbolomu area of the community pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy, but begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
O.O Olatunji, the magistrate, said the offences contravened Sections 412 and 287 of Lagos State Criminal Code Law, 2015, which stipulate two and three years imprisonment. He however, gave the convict N20,000 option of fine, advising the convict to desist from such crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Bosede Adegeshin, had told the court that the convict and others still at large, robbed one Ejima Peters in December 2017.
“The convict pretended to be the complainant’s friend by introducing himself as his old classmate in school.
“While doing that, two other men came and robbed him of his wallet which contained ATM cards, driver’s licence, identity card and N11,000 cash.
“The convict and others ran away immediately the complainant shouted for help, but the police arrested him, while others fled,” she said.
