President Muhammadu Buhari and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.) Tuesday met behind closed doors at the Aso Presidential Villa, Abuja. The president and his guest later emerged to clicking lenses of cameramen. The two men grinned and shook hands before Abdulsalami made his way out of sight.
However, details of the meeting could not be ascertained as at press time. It is believed General Abdulsalami had visited the president to douse the tension inspired by the controversial statement issued by another former military ruler, General Ibrahim Babangida.
Babangida was believed to have issued the statement writing off President Buhari from re-contesting the presidency in 2019. He had deplored the insecurity in the country, among others.
Babangida and Abdulsalami are believed to be close aside being from the same Niger state.
