Lawmaker’s Wife Dies After Drinking Herbal Mixture

Binta Safiyanu, wife of a member of the Katsina state House of Assembly, has died after taking a herbal mixture to enhance the flow of milk in her beasts. The incident happened a week after the mother of six was delivered of a set of twins.

Safiyanu, first wife of Yunusa Jikamshi representing Musawa constituency, had taken the mixture suggested by her co-wives after which she started vomiting. Another version, however, had it that the deceased was fond of taking traditional herbs and allegedly directed a woman identified simply as Sakina to prepare the concoction for her.

She was taken to the Musawa General Hospital where she was confirmed dead. She has since been buried, according to Islamic rites.

Northern City News say the incident was initially reported at the Musawa police station from where it was transferred to the state criminal investigation, Katsina bureau, for further investigation.
