President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met the Dapchi schoolgirls freed by Boko Haram on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, which also has the girls' parents, top government officials and security chiefs in attendance, is holding inside the Press Gallery of the Presidential Villa's Council Chambers.
Buhari warned security chiefs to avoid a recurrence of kidnappings in the north east. He vowed to decisively deal with them if any such incidents reoccur. He also warned that the federal government would deal with anybody found to be politicising the abduction and rescue of the girls.
“May I also warn against those elements who have chosen to make political fortune of our citizens’ misfortune.
“Government would not tolerate any attempt by any person or group to trivialise or politicise security issues for politically motivated ends.
“Accordingly, security agencies would not hesitate to decisively deal with such unscrupulous characters,” he said.
