A bus carrying 48 passengers, most of them university students, reportedly veered off a cliff in northern Ethiopia killing 38 while the remaining 10 passengers sustained serious injuries. The incident happened on Monday. According to State radio Fana “A total of 38 people (28 men and 10 women) were killed in the accident,” Fana said on its website on Tuesday, citing the Legambo district authorities, where the accident took place. The radio outfit also stated that surviving passengers suffer “serious and light” injuries. The bus was said to have tumbled off a five meter cliff in an area called Genete Selam Ber, Kebele 07, in Lagambo. Lagambo, which is part of the Amhara regional state, is located some 482 km north of Addis Ababa. The surviving passengers were said to be receiving medical treatment at Hidar 11 hospital in the Akesta town. However, it is not yet clear what caused the bus to derail off the cliff.
