A young woman has said she didn’t regret taking to prostitution. The victim, Destiny Ita Bassey, 19, was among three girls, including an underage girl, arrested by the police at Collabor Hotel, in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos.
She told journalists, before whom they were paraded on Tuesday, that lack of parental care caused her predicament.
“Since my father’s help, there has not been anyone to help. My mother lives in the village and there was little she could do alone”, Ita-Bassey said.
“I earn 15,000 naira a week and charge 1000 naira for a round of sex. I have no regret about this.”
The other arrested persons were 15-year-old Glory Asuquo and Bright Effiong, 18.
The girls, who the police said were victims of human trafficking, said they were brought from the Akwa Ibom state by their trafficker. Also, the victims said they were handed over to one Monica Ita, 25, who harbored them in the hotel where they were apprehended. They equally named the leader of the prostitution ring as Thomas Emmanuel, 29, and Okon John, 34, both of who were arrested, too.
Edgal Imohimi, the Commissioner of Police for the state, said the victims would be charged to court at the completion of investigation into the case.
