Super Eagles duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Shehu Abdullahi will sit out the team’s friendly match against Serbia on Tuesday. Toyin Ibitoye, Media Officer of the team, revealed this in a chat with Brila fm on Tuesday. He said Iheanacho sustained a hand injury while Abdullahi is still recuperating from the injury he sustained against Poland.
“Kelechi Iheanacho is not available for this game, he has a fracture in his hand but it’s nothing to worry about because he has a cast on it. Shehu Abdullahi also picked an injury in the game against Poland and has not trained, so he may not be available tonight”, he said.
Ibitoye also said the Super Eagles would use the match to have an idea of what Croatia would bring at the World Cup when they play Nigeria in Group D opener.
“We are using this window to ensure the players bond very well and also have an idea of what Croatia would bring to the party when we confront them at the World Cup. They are our first opponent in the tournament, and that is essentially why we are playing this game—to prepare the team for that day,” he added.
The team’s spokesman also disclosed that the Super Eagles will dawn the “black and scale-like jersey design” against Serbia, which he described as the team’s home jersey. He said the all Green, worn against Poland was the team’s away kit.
