Relegation-threatened Kwara United Tuesday appointed Bala Abubakar as new coach. The club had mutually parted ways with former coach, John Ogbu, following strings of poor results, according to the club.
Abubakar revealed he was in Ilorin over the weekend to finalize details of his contract with the club’s management and also saw the team’s 1-1 game against Elkanemi Warriors.
He also said the team’s precarious position in the league can be salvaged, despite being rooted to the bottom of the NPFL table.
He said, “We have concluded everything, I was in Ilorin over the weekend. The job is tasking, but we can still rescue the situation. We can take the 17th spot from Niger Tornadoes in the mid-season. The job will spur me to a higher challenge. By the Grace of God, we will pass over it.”
The coach, who reportedly turned down a similar offer form Gombe United two weeks ago, has been saddled by the club’s hierarchy to rescue the club out of the relegation waters.
The Harmony Boys secured promotion back to the NPFL last season after they were relegated in 2015.
