Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr, has said the team is aware of the danger Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski poses. Lewandoski, who plays for Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga would lead his country against Nigeria in an international friendly on March 24. The striker netted a hat-trick in his club’s 6-0 drubbing of Hamburg over the weekend.
“Of course everybody knows Lewandoski, he is one of the best goal scorers in the world and I hope that he will not score three goals against us,” Rohr jokingly told journalists at the Agege township stadium on Sunday.
Rohr was present at the stadium to watch MFM FC’s 3-0 thrashing of Heartland in the Nigerian Professional Football League. He said the friendlies, in which the Super Eagles will also take on Serbia, would give competition to the goal keeping options in the team.
“The friendlies will give competition to our young goalkeepers. It is also important that the team find unity and team work,” he added.
The coach last month sent the team’s assistant goalkeeping coach, Enrico Pionetti, to Deportivo La Coruna in Spain, to train with young keeper, Francis Uzoho. Pundits have suggested that Uzoho, who was impressive in a friendly game against Argentina in 2017, could surprisingly emerge as Rohr’s number one for the 2018 World Cup.
