A man, Lucky Joseph, has accused operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of stripping him naked and pulling him by his penis in public. The incident happened on Odums Street, Choba Extension in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Joseph told Punch Metro that he had been stopped by the men who requested to search him. He said he asked to declare what he had on him to prevent them from planting any incriminating substance on him. The matter had led to an argument during which he was allegedly stripped naked and dragged to their waiting vehicle with his penis.
He lamented the embarrassment he had been subjected to saying he worked in a mechanic workshop in the area. He claimed they had inflicted machete cuts on him when he refused to follow them to their car. Joseph said they had demanded a bribe of N50,000 to release him but had settled for N30,000 after the intervention of eyewitnesses. He said a man, popularly known as papa, who owns the workshop where he worked, had raised N23,000 while two others raised N5,000 and N2,000.
Papa said the victim was a hemp smoker and so it was possible for the men to have found it in his possession.
Nnamdi Omoni, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said he was unaware of the incident.
The incident happened last Thursday.
