Six people have been arrested over an assault on Niger Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello. Governor Bello was reportedly pelted with stone during an on-the-spot assessment to Bida Old Market razed by fire on March 1. Dibal Yakadi, the state police commissioner, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the arrested suspects would be charged to court after the police would have completed its investigations into the incident.
”As soon as we finished our investigation the suspects will be charged to court,” he said.
” We will ensure diligent prosecutions of all those involved so as to serve as a lesson for others who are thinking in the same direction,” he said.
Yakadi said the command had already taken proactive security measures to deal with any form of security threat to peace in the state.
About 900 shops were gutted by fire at the Market.
