Some members of the All Progressives Congress in Sokoto state have accused Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal of undermining President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight. They accused the governor of withdrawing from the courts corruption cases involving his loyalists. They also accused the governor of disloyalty to the president and anti-party activities.
The group, under the auspices of APC Adalci Buhari Saka, gave Governor Tambuwal 48 hours to declare whether he is with President Buhari or not.
Professor Bashar Lawal, who spoke for the group at a press conference held at the NUJ secretariat, Sokoto, also accused the governor of openly romancing with leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, specifically Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike.
"We don't understand his romance with the leading members of the opposition PDP which was widely publicized, " the group said.
It added " He has a strong relationship with Governor Wike who is the perceived leader of the modern PDP and the national chairman of the party. He visits them and they come and visit him in Sokoto as well. "
The group threatened that should the governor failed to declare its stand on the president, it “will do what is necessary."
The group further alleged that Governor Tambuwal squandered public funds in their billions on social infrastructure that had no direct impact on the people.
"But they keep blaming the federal government despite receiving successive funding as bailouts, Paris club refunds in addition to the regular monthly subvention from the federal government," the group said.
The group, who are members of the President’s former party - the defunct CPC – claimed Governor Tambuwal confiscated farmlands worth N300 million of the former gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of APC, Barrister Aliyu Sanyinna and the demolition of part of the school owned by their spokesperson, Professor Bashar.
