Botswana has appointed a 30-year-old as its Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, its youngest ever. The young female minister, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo holds BA Economics and MSc International Economics degrees.
Kenewendo’s latest appointment came two years after former Botswana President Ian Khama appointed her member of parliament.
She had previously worked as a trade economist in the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Ghana.
Many are celebrating Kenewendo’s appointment on the internet, saying it is a rare feat worthy of being replicated across the African continent.
Kenewendo was one of the ministers appointed by Botswana’s new president Mokgweetsi Masisi, who in his inaugural address pledged to invest in the youth and create job opportunities for them.
